Russia plans to increase targeted support to the CIS and EurAsEC. It was stated by the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, speaking at a meeting of ambassadors at Russian Foreign Ministry. "We must improve the quality of assistance and increase targeted support to associations of priority for us, the CIS and EurAsEC", the President stressed.

Speaking of the problems of international aid, he noted that for Russia «it is important where the money goes», allotted, for example, by the World Bank and the IMF, PRIME-TASS informs. «Of course, it’s not the money as the U.S. and some European states get, but these are millions, hundreds of millions, billions of dollars, in fact», Dmitry Medvedev said.

«At the same time, today it is about giving Russia a new role», Russian leader continued. «We can contribute to solving global problems — primarily associated with economic growth — on equal footing with other world’s leading nations. And the integration of these achievements into the national strategy of development will enhance Russia’s decent status in post-crisis world».

«Therefore we should intensify efforts to create a mechanism for implementing the Concepts of assistance to international development, approved by the government», the president of Russia stressed. In this regard, he paid attention to that «such work should be carried out under the mandatory tight control over the expenditure of funds and constant guideline to the provision of adequate political efficiency for Russian interests». «Precisely with this spirit we approach the upcoming New York summit on Millennium Development Goals in September», Russian head of state explained.
