The State Duma of the Russian Federation issued a statement on the Russian-Belarusian situation on October 6. It expressed MPs' concern over the situation of recent relations between the two countries, supporting the position of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev though.

According to deputies, it’s unacceptable to use the whole positive, created for decades by joint efforts of the Belarusians and Russians, as a bargaining chip. » Anti-Russian rhetoric, used by the current leadership of the Republic of Belarus,  goes against the general historical destiny of the Russian and Belarusian peoples, contrary to the prevailing spirit of the ancient cultural and economic ties, our way of life and thinking,» as noted in the statement, «REGNUM-Belarus».

Nevertheless, according to the document, «The Republic of Belarus is one of the most important strategic allies of Russia.» «Active cooperation in economic, security, military construction spheres strengthens the international position of our countries, provides for the welfare of our peoples,» the Russian parliament.

Communist Party Project Not Included in Statement Text

At the same time, the State Duma refused to include an alternative project, developed by CPRF members, in the text of the statement. The Communist Party project criticized the Russian leadership working modalities with Belarus, including those manifested in the rhetoric speeches of senior officials. According to the communists, «they cause rejection» from the part of Belarusian and Russian people, go against the historical destiny of the two countries, contrary to the spirit of centuries-old cultural and economic ties.

«And what about the statements of the Belarusian debt for gas, milk, sugar, customs and other so-called «wars», waged against the brotherly country. Attempts to get Belarusian real estate and industrial projects at prices, dictated by Russian oligarchs and business structures, met with a decisive repulse from the Belarusian leadership. It’s not a coincidence that Russian media, controlled by the government, have unleashed against Alexander Lukashenko (president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko — Telegraf) a smear campaign, using the flimsy, fraudulent «facts», the Communist Party deputies declared.

In its draft project Communists demanded to «stop trying to split the relations of our nations, not to interfere in the internal affairs of Belarus, to prevent the use of dirty political technologies in the upcoming presidential elections in Belarus.» «The Belarusian peoples have proved its ability to determine their own destiny,» the document says.
