Belarusian economist Leonid Zlotnikov is convinced that Belarus will not suffer from the recent halving of electricity supplies from Russia. As noted by the expert, Belarus has purchased small amounts of Russian electricity which is now possible to cover with own reserves.
«Belarus holds in reserve part of its own capacities for production of self-energy. That is, supply reduction will be covered by these reserves,» said the economist.
According to Leonid Zlotnikov, Belarus used to purchase electricity in Russia for the sake of economy, as it turned out to be a little cheaper than domestic production.
In turn, economist Sergei Chali believes that Russia has decided to cut supplies to Belarus partners to recall that «the goods received must be paid.» The expert believes that the debt of Belarus will be liquidated in the near future.
According to Telegraf, June 9, Russian exporter of electricity, the company Inter RAO, halved the electricity supplies to Belarus because of debts. The Belarusian side owes approximately RUB1.5 billion for electricity, supplied in March-April this year.
