The leader of the civil campaign "European Belarus" Andrei Sannikov in interview to the Polish mass-media stated that the Belarusians believe in possibility of resignation of the current president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. The oppositional politician also confirmed once again his intention to run for president.

«The majority of Belarusians doesn’t support Lukashenko. And, according to the polls, the majority wants rapprochement with Europe. Perhaps they want that not for any ideals, and at least because of such prosaic thing that by unknown reason, potato, carrots and onion are cheaper in Poland than in Belarus. It doesn’t mean that Byelorussians will automatically support opposition. We should actually struggle for it», Andrei Sannikov stated.

According to the presidential nominee, all those who are in opposition, oppose Alexander Lukashenko’s regime, but their strategy and tactics differ. «I think that people should participate in these elections not to show off. I don’t need to show off. It is necessary to participate in elections to use chance of victory», «Nasha Niva» quotes Andrei Sannikov.

«People look both on the authorities, and on the opposition. 16 years of dictatorship, 16 years of the boorish power and suppression of Belarus development are quite enough. The opposition which participates in elections not for victory but only to influence somehow Lukashenko’s policy, will interest nobody», the leader of the «European Belarus» said.

Lukashenko is product of Russia, Sannikov

According to the politician, Russia always influences Belarus, at least because the Belarusian leader has made all economy dependent on the Russian power resources. «Lukashenko is product of Russia. It created him. Has it got benefits of him? According to the calculations of independent experts, Moscow supported Lukashenko at an amount of 37.5 billion dollars during the past 16 years «, Andrey Sannikov has told.

The presidential nominee mentioned that the Russian economy had been reformed, and the Belarusian economy hadn’t been reformed.

«Our economy should be reformed so that the Russians could do business in Belarus. Belarus is on the way from Russia to Europe. Such economy, totalitarian regime and notorious default of agreements cause the problems both to Russia and Europe. Nevertheless, it’s difficult to say, whether Moscow will change its policy to Belarus», Andrei Sannikov said.
