Chairman of the United Civil Party Anatoli Lebedko said that he would not sue the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko for the insult. "I'm not going to go down to vulgar abuse. I have been accustomed to a different view of a civilized discussion," said the politician.

«Secondly, under normal circumstances it would be possible to appeal to the court, if it were in our country,» «Belarusian partisans» quoted the opposition leader.

Anatoli Lebedko believes that the conduct and statements of the Belarusian leadership are currently influenced by the economic crisis in the country.

«It’s time for the authorities to decide on the opposition: either it is just an empty space, or is it actually some real power, affecting the situation. If it’s the second option, there are two approaches. One, which is now shown, it’s an enemy that must be responsible for everything. If it’s really so, let’s put the opposition in jail and there will soon be sugar and currency. Let’s put all dissidents in prison, deport them or bury in the ground. But if after all these measures taken there will still be no sugar and the ruble will fall again, these allegations are absolutely meaningless,» said the politician.

He does not know exactly what has contributed to his release from prison as a defendant «in the case on December 19.»

«I was not present at the meeting of Romanchuk (the presidential candidate of UCP party Yaroslav Romanchuk — Telegraf) with Lukashenko, it’s hard to say. I think this situation has been influenced by many factors. First, a factor of my absolute innocence. My release may have been influenced by this meeting or the economic situation in the country. I may also be an object for sale in some kind of bargaining. I’m not going to speculate on the coffee grounds over the reasons for my release. Such statements indicate only that there are no elements of law  in my case, but only 100% of policy concentration,» he said.

As Telegraf preciously reported, the president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has recently called the opposition leaders, including Anatoli Lebedko, «scums.» Head of the UCP, according to the President, has been released from prison at the request of Romanchuk.

UCP chairman, kept from December 20 in KGB jail on charges of organizing mass riots in Minsk, was released on recognisance not to leave on April 6.
