Polish Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, stated that he would seek the abolition of visas for Belarus and other countries participating in the Eastern Partnership at the forthcoming meeting of the EU-Russia commission in Rostov on May 31. The EU will present there the prospects for the abolition of visa regime with Russia.

«This is a good information for us. Because, if we promise it to Russia, then we have a right to insist on such concessions for the Eastern Partnership participant-countries, Rzeczpospolita quotes the words of Polish minister.

After Poland, Lithuania and Latvia joined the Schengen zone, the number of Belarusians’ visits on EU territory reduced dramatically. So, the number of visas issued by Polish diplomatic mission in Belarus has decreased by 73%, Lithuanian by 52%, Latvian by 34%.

However, now Belarusians and Poles who live in the border areas, are waiting for ratification by parliaments of Belarus and Poland of the previously signed agreements on cross-border movement.
