Lukashenko Signed Decrees on the Nuclear Fuel Removal to Russia

On October 8 President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed two decrees on the removal of irradiated and fresh highly enriched nuclear fuel from research reactors to Russia. According to the decrees, the discharged fuel will be replaced with low-enriched.

President of Belarus directed to create «conditions for the provision of technical assistance by the U.S. government in export and exchange of nuclear fuel», including, exempt all operations for nuclear fuel removal and replacement from taxation, AFN.

«The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to inform the U.S. government about the conditions of technical assistance through diplomatic channels,» Alexander Lukashenko stated in the decree.

As Telegraf reported, Belarus plans to export about two tons of uranium, accumulated since Soviet times, to Russia. According to Director General of the Joint Institute for Energy and Nuclear Research «Sosni» of Belarus Vyacheslav Kuvshinov, the project will be implemented with the cooperation of American specialists.
