Inflation in Belarus Much Higher than Inflation in Neighboring Countries

According to official statistics, Belarus is a leader in the rate of inflation among the CIS countries. Inflation in Belarus reached 13.1% in May this year, having amounted to 25.4% since the year's beginning. At the same time, according to the National Statistics Committee of Belarus, in neighboring Russia prices increased by 0.5% in May and by 4.8% since the beginning of the year, in Ukraine — by 0.8% and 5.5% respectively, Kazakhstan — 0.5% and 4.8%.

Food price rise in Belarus amounted to 14.6% in May, 0.8% — in Ukraine and 0.7% — in Kazakhstan. In Russia, May food prices fell by 0.1% in general, reported the National Statistics Committee.

As Telegraf previously reported, the consumer price index for goods and services in Belarus amounted to 113.1% in May 2011 against April 2011 and 125.4% — against December 2010.
