Belarusian mobile users in Russia will no longer face a 24-hour wait to register their phones while roaming, as operators have introduced a simplified verification process to bypass a temporary block.

The new feature, launched by Belarusian operators MTS and A1 and their roaming partners, allows subscribers to quickly restore mobile data and SMS services. The Russian carrier Megafon has fully implemented the system, while three others—MTS, Beeline, and T2—are currently testing it.

As explained by the press service of A1, to lift the temporary block, Belarusians will need to complete verification immediately after registering on a Russian operator’s network. An SMS with a link and detailed instructions should arrive right after registration. For this to work, the SIM card must have mobile data roaming enabled.

The company assured that after successful verification (via a CAPTCHA), data and SMS services will be unblocked within a few minutes.

What to do if the block remains? A1 advised in this case to try turning airplane mode on and off to refresh the connection—this should help. The mandatory 24-hour block on data and SMS services for all subscribers in roaming was introduced by Russian operators on October 6, 2025. The blocking starts from the first registration on the network and is lifted automatically after 24 hours. Voice calls remain available.
