Herd of Bisons Approaches Houses in Gomel Region Village
Residents of the Ozarany agro-town in the Zhytkavichy district of the Gomel region recently witnessed a remarkable sight: an entire herd of Białowieża bison settled in a field just behind their kitchen gardens. Locals had the chance to take splendid photographs, as the forest guests behaved in an utterly serene and calm manner, though specialists still advised them to keep distance from the animals.
As seen in the photos published on the Telegram channel of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee, more than two dozen bison were peacefully resting in a field adjoining the locals’ plots.

As explained by Andrei Bespaly, Deputy Director General for Research at the Pripyatsky National Park, the herd did not choose this resting place by chance. Park staff have set up a feeding area for the forest visitors there on more than one occasion. Feeders are specially arranged for them, providing oats, crushed maize, as well as hay, carrots, and salt.
According to specialists, these unique «canteens» for bison not only help sustain the animals during the «hungry-cold» winter period, preserving their numbers, but also minimise potential damage to agricultural land.
Recall that recently, a lone bison appeared in a village in the Mogilev region near Osipovichi. According to observations by local residents, the animal showed interest in street lamps, managed to «lazily» lie down in front of one of the houses, and then retreated into the forest.
