Belarusneft Announces New Oil Production Record and Pledges to Break It in 2026
Belarusian oil workers managed to surpass their own annual oil production record in late December. On Monday, 29 December, the Integrated Operations Centre of the Rechitsaneft oil and gas production division registered an indicator that had remained unattainable for Belarusneft for the past 30 years.
A significant milestone for the company was reaching the mark of 2 million tonnes of oil produced in a year. This is not the absolute record for Belarusneft. Back in 1975, Belarusian oil workers were extracting around 8 million tonnes of hydrocarbons per year at the peak of their activity. The multiple-fold reduction in production is linked to the depletion of «easily accessible» reserves. The decline in oil production in Belarus continued until 2017, when the trend was successfully reversed.
Now, as stated by the head of the oil and gas production division, Alexander Tsybrankov, oil production is planned to be gradually increased. Thus, next year Belarusneft is aiming for an output of 2.1 million tonnes, and by 2030 — 2.3 million tonnes.
Tsybrankov called this the company’s contribution to Belarus’s energy security.

It is worth noting that, according to Belarusneft estimates, Belarus’s oil reserves today amount to approximately 45.2 million tonnes, meaning at current production rates they would last only 22 years. However, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Sergei Maslyak, cited a different figure this spring. According to him, Belarus’s own oil reserves will last for approximately 50 years.
Глава Минприроды рассказал, на сколько лет Беларуси хватит своих запасов нефти и калийной соли
The reserves of potash salt, which remains one of the country’s most valuable own mineral resources, are more substantial. According to Maslyak, they will last for at least another 100 years.
