The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection monitoring air quality in three more Belarusian towns
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection has begun monitoring air quality in three more Belarusian towns. Two further towns have also seen additional ambient air monitoring stations deployed.
The increase in the number of permanent monitoring stations for ambient air in Belarus is stipulated by Ministerial Order No. 441-OD «On Certain Issues of Organising Ambient Air Monitoring» of 21 November 2025, which officially came into force on 1 December.
Consequently, the new towns included in the national ambient air monitoring system are:
- Hlybokaye in Vitebsk Region;
- Petrykaw in Gomel Region;
- Asipovichy in Mogilev Region.
Additional stations have also been installed on Promyshlennaya Street in Zhlobin and on Pryberezhinsky Boulevard near building No. 30 in Babruysk.
As explained by the ministry’s press office, besides increasing the number of stations, the ministerial order has adjusted the list of ambient air parameters being tracked and the frequency of the observations themselves. The list of organisations required to conduct ambient air quality monitoring has also been revised.
Previously, Telegraf.news reported that spruce trees familiar to Belarusians could disappear from the southern and central parts of the country within the next 50-100 years. This forecast was given by Alexander Avsey, the chief specialist of the Forestry Department of the Ministry of Forestry. According to him, the cause is global warming and the changes associated with it.
