Lithuanian border guards have shared footage from the border with Belarus on their social media channels. The surveillance cameras captured an entire group of 12 ‘illegals’ attempting to enter the neighbouring country’s territory while bypassing official border crossing points.

The footage was shared by officers of the Kabeliai Border Detachment of the Varėna Border District of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service. The ‘violators’, flagged by the video surveillance system on the border with Belarus, turned out to be a family of wild boar.

The video shows them emerging in a neat procession from the forest near the village of Daržinėliai in the Varėna district. A physical barrier is in place on the Lithuanian side here – a tall metal fence topped with razor wire, intended to deter illegal migrants. However, as seen, it becomes an insurmountable obstacle not only for people but also for the legitimate inhabitants of the forest.

After approaching the fence, the animals assessed the barrier and returned to the patrol path. Having marched in an orderly line for about 300 metres along the fence, they turned one by one back into the forest.

«Noticed they left their passports at home, they’ll be back later,» joked one of the commenters under the Lithuanian border guards’ video.

However, this group of ‘masked illegals’, as dubbed by internet users, has not been spotted again by the Lithuanian border guards so far.
