Russian Lawmaker Warns Against Ban on Sharing Intimate Photos
Anatoly Wasserman, a deputy in Russia’s lower house of parliament, the State Duma, has urged his colleagues not to support a proposed law that would ban Russians from sharing intimate photos, also known as “nudes” or “dick pics”.
The bill, proposed by other lawmakers, seeks to introduce administrative liability for sending explicit photos and images. Its authors argue that such content is often viewed in public places, such as the metro.
«Any proposals are possible, but I very much hope that [Russian Justice Minister Konstantin] Chuychenko will reject this initiative. In other words, there is no need to create hypocrisy and hysteria out of nowhere. This is already too much and completely unnecessary», Wasserman stated.
The controversy comes after reports from Belarus, where authorities clarified that citizens could face pornography distribution charges even for sending their own intimate photos in private messages.
