Fog over the whole country. Belarusian Emergencies Ministry warns citizens of a whole list of dangers
The Ministry for Emergency Situations (MCHS) has warned Belarusians that, along with a warming of temperatures up to +10°C, fog will descend over the country. Furthermore, in some areas, people should prepare for a whole list of “unfavourable hydrometeorological phenomena.”
According to the warning issued by the MCHS on 26 November, fog is expected across most of Belarus. However, those in the north-western half of the country should brace for heavy precipitation in the form of snow, sleet, and even rain.
In connection with such weather phenomena, the ministry listed the most likely consequences, which include:
— Disruptions and/or cuts to power supplies, falling trees,
— Damage to communication and power lines, and to the roofs of buildings and structures,
— Reduced visibility, disruption to transport,
— An increased likelihood of road traffic accidents.
However, precipitation may not be confined only to the north-west of the country. In certain areas of Belarus, there may be black ice and wet snow accumulation.
Air temperatures will range from -1°C in the north-west to +10°C in the south-east.
The State Traffic Inspectorate (GAI) has its own list
In connection with the orange level of danger, the Belarusian GAI has issued its own list of requirements and recommendations.
«In such weather, before setting off, you should clear your car of snow, ensure the vehicle’s heating system, window, mirror and windscreen wiper defrosters, and external lights are working properly, and fill the screenwash reservoir with anti-freeze fluid. If snow builds up on the wipers during your journey, stop to clear them only in safe places away from the carriageway,» the department warned.
They stated that they have organised round-the-clock monitoring on the roads.
