In 2010, Russia increased its imports of dairy products from the EU countries, gradually supplanting Belarusian products from Russian market. Firstly, it concerns dry milk, the executive director of Russian Dairy Union, Vladimir Labinov, reported.

According to Vladimir Labinov, Russian production of dairy products increases slower then consumption growth. Over the first half of this year, it totaled 11% compared to the same period of last year. It leads to the rise of imports of dairy products — cheese, butter and dry milk products.

«The main supplier of dry dairy products to Russia in recent years was Belarus. This year, the proportion of European countries of far abroad in the structure of dry milk products imports is increasing. Because Belarus, even with an increase in the volume of milk production, is not able to satisfy the volume of consumption, formed in Russia, today», Vladimir Labinov said.

However, the expert noted that Belarusian dairy products, including dry milk, is more expensive than the same products, imported from Europe or from New Zealand, RIA Novosti informs. Even taking into account that Belarus and Russia trade without levying duties, products from the EU countries are cheaper.

«As part of our desire to have stable pricing policy, in summer period Belarus wilfully limited the amount of dairy products supply to Russia», the chairman of the National Union of Milk Producers (Soyuzmoloko), Andrei Danilenko, explained. However, according to his words, «it can significantly increase the volume of supplies to the Russian market».

In addition, the head of Soyuzmoloko stressed that Belarus would continue to be the main and largest supplier of dairy products to the Russian market.
