Cooperation between the EU and Belarus in last 10 — 15 years has increased steadily in all directions, what indicates that the EU is fundamentally important partner for Belarus. This statement was made on July 9 by Foreign Minister of Belarus, Sergei Martynov, at a meeting with European Commissioner for the EU Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy, Stefan Füle.

Over this period, from monetary trade partner the EU has changed into one of the largest trade partners, including on export from Belarus, but the relations of the Republic and the EU are not limited only by economic issues, Foreign Minister of Belarus stressed. «We cooperate closely in various fields, particularly in the field of combating illegal migration, smuggling and other negative phenomena», Sergei Martynov underlined.

According to the minister, the evidence of the deepening of relations between Belarus and the EU in various areas is the project of Eastern Partnership, BelTA informs. «We welcome this initiative, although the Belarusian side is not entirely satisfied with the speed of the project, Belarus is interested to develop», the head of Belarusian Foreign Ministry stated.

In his turn, Stefan Füle noted that Eastern Partnership is «the most effective project of cooperation between Belarus and the EU».
