Shushkevich Gets the Most Prestigious Lithuanian Award

Former Chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus, Stanislav Shushkevich, for active support of Lithuanian independence in 1991 received the most prestigious Lithuanian award — The Cross of Commander of the Order of Vytautas the Great. The award was handed to Stanislav Shushkevich on July 6 by Lithuanian President, Dalia Grybauskaitė.

«You give us the opportunity to test ourselves and our civicism once again. Looking at your example, we set higher demands for ourselves», Lithuanian president said, handing the State orders and medals to the citizens of Lithuania and foreign countries for services to Lithuania and glorification of Lithuania in the world on the occasion of the Day of state, DELFI informs.

Dalia Grybauskaitė also handed the Cross of Commander «For services to Lithuania» to Swedish diplomat, Lars Freden, who was the consul of Sweden in the Baltic countries in 1989-1992.

Among other awardees there are Lithuanian and foreign scientists, cultural figures, representatives of emigration.
