Belarus Has Reduced Energy Intensity of GDP by 31% for Five Years, Ministry of Energy

During the period from 2005 to 2010, energy intensity of GDP will decrease by 31%, according to preliminary forecasts, By 2015, it is planned to decrease energy intensity of GDP by 50%, comparing with 2005, by 2020 — by 60%, Deputy Energy Minister of Belarus, Mikhail Mikhadyuk, informed.

In 2006-2009, Belarus has introduced 450 MW of capacity. As a result, the state has saved more than one million tons of equivalent fuel. In 2010-2011, it is planned to introduce more than 700 MW of capacity, in next five years — even more than 3000 MW. Old, inefficient and fuel high consuming companies to be decommissioned, BelTA informs.

According to Mikhail Mikhadyuk, in fuel balance of Belarus (boiler and furnace fuel) there prevails natural gas — 77%. Its part to be reduced by 22% by 2020. In fuel balance of Belarusian power industry, the proportion of natural gas is 95%. Commissioning of the first Belarusian nuclear power plant, as well as new coal-fired power plants can give a possibility to withdraw about five billion cubic meters of natural gas from fuel balance.

As a result of 2009, in fuel balance of Belarus (boiler and furnace fuel) the share of own resources was 20.3%. In ten years, it is planned to increase this share up to 34%, Deputy Minister of Energy stressed.
